Warwickshire Road Safety Partnership is supporting BRAKE Road Safety Week from 15-21 November by celebrating the heroic work of Warwickshire’s road safety professionals and explaining how the public can play a part in making our roads safer for everyone.

During the week, the partnership will be celebrating the vital roles of our Community Speed Watch volunteers, School Crossing Patrols, and our road safety education professionals who deliver training such as Biker Down.  We will also be celebrating our emergency services including the Warwickshire & Northamptonshire Air Ambulance, Warwickshire Police Commercial Vehicle Unit and National Highways whose officers patrol our strategic road network to respond to those who need them.

Whilst the work of some heroes is less visible, it is just as vital.  This includes the role of Warwickshire’s BRAKE Independent Road Victim Advocate, who offers increased support to families who have suffered a bereavement or serious injury due to a collision on the roads.  The role is funded by the Warwickshire Police and Crime Commissioner’s Road Safety Fund.

Chair of Warwickshire Road Safety Partnership Philip Seccombe said “There is some fantastic work going on in Warwickshire to make our roads safer for everyone.  This is a great opportunity to tell people about the work we are all doing on a daily basis to support and educate road users, keep people safe and to support the families of those who are seriously injured or lose their lives on our roads. It is fitting therefore that BRAKE Road Safety week ends on the World Day of Remembrance for Road Traffic Victims on Sunday 21 November. “

“We are also issuing a call to action to the public to step up to help us meet Warwickshire Road Safety Partnership’s ambitious target of a 50% reduction in road deaths and serious injuries by 2030.

“We can only do this with the public’s help because whilst our ‘safe systems’ approach will look at all aspects of road safety including road and vehicle design and post collision response, people’s behaviour needs to change too.   We are asking the public to pledge to follow traffic laws and to do everything they can to help prevent collisions from happening for example by not speeding or driving whilst distracted.”
