Safe Speeds

05-07-21 COMMUNITY SPEEDWATCH-13

Overview

One of the most common contributing factors in all road traffic collisions is speed. This does not just mean driving above the speed limit, but also includes driving at an inappropriate speed for the road conditions or hazard.  E.g. heavy rain or fog or driving into a bend too fast and losing control. A lack of driving experience can make hazard perception and reading the road especially difficult for young and new drivers and riders. If you are involved in a collision whilst driving at a lower speed you are less likely to suffer serious or fatal injuries.

Hazard perception programmes are available on line to test your skills in a safe environment. Our Road Safety Education Officers target 16-18 year olds in schools and colleges as they are applying for their first licence, to get the message across.
