Child Car Seat Safety
Child Seat Safety
Every parent and carer wants to keep their child safe, especially when they are travelling in a vehicle.
The Law
The law states children must use a car seat until they are 12 years old or 135 centimetres tall, whichever comes first. You can choose a child car seat based on your child’s height or weight.
Children over 12 or more than 135cm in height must wear a seat belt.
Car Seat Check Events
Partners organise free child car seat safety checks at accessible venues across the county. Road Safety experts check that car seats are suitable for the vehicle, that they are fitted correctly and are appropriate for the age and weight of the child. Keep an eye on social media or visit our dedicated page for events.
Car Seat Smarter
Car Seat Smart is an online resource comprising six short films focussing on car seat safety and covers caring for your seat, fitting tips, vehicle issues, shopping for a seat, law exemptions and vehicle issues.
