Police target suspected drink and drug drivers in Warwickshire
Ten suspected drink and drug drivers have been arrested over the weekend of 18-21 August with seven of them already charged to appear before magistrates for sentencing, as officers continue to stop and check drivers to test if they are over the drink drive limit or taking illegal drugs.
This includes a 34 year old man from Lighthorne Heath, who was remanded in custody over the weekend to appear before Coventry Magistrates today 21 August charged with drink driving and driving without insurance. He was arrested at 23.40hours on Friday 18 August in Parker Drive, Leamington after police were called to a collision where a car had collided with another vehicle in the road.
A 52 year old man from Bidford-on-Avon was arrested at 1.09hours on 19 August on suspicion of drink driving on Redditch Road, Studley after his Peugeot 208 was involved in a collision with a parked car. Officers arrived, and he failed a roadside breath test. He has been released on bail pending further enquiries.
A 35 year old man from Mancetter, Atherstone was arrested at 16.23hours on 20 August at Finham Petrol Station on the A45 Finham on suspicion of drink driving after a member of the public called the police to report a man leaving the Saxon Mill pub in Warwick. Officers located the driver and he failed a roadside breath test. He was later charged with drink driving and is due to appear at Warwickshire Magistrates Court on 29 September.
A 49 year old man from Nuneaton was arrested at 20.00hours on 20 August on suspicion of drink driving after he drove past officers who were dealing with another incident. Police caught up with the driver as he arrived at Newdigate Colliery Sports and Social Club in Bedworth. He was later charged with driving whilst unfit through drink or drugs and is due to appear before Warwickshire Magistrates on 22 September.
A 23 year old man from Coventry was arrested at 21.50hours on 20 August on suspicion of drink driving in Kenilworth Road, Leamington after he pulled out in front of officers who observed his manner of driving and pulled his car over. He failed a roadside breath test and is due before Warwickshire Magistrates on 22 September charged with drink driving.
A 40 year old man from Earl Shilton was arrested on suspicion of drug driving at 14.12hours on 18 August at Corley Services Northbound on the M6 after the Renault Clio he was driving was involved in a collision with two other vehicles. Officers arrived and he provided a positive drug swipe. He has been released on police bail pending the results of further tests.
A 54 year old woman from Dordon was arrested at 14.52hours on 18 August after her Mercedes was involved in a minor collision on Whitehouse Road, Dordon. It’s believed she caused minor injuries to the leg of a member of public when she attempted to leave the scene. She then left on foot without providing details. She was located nearby and failed a roadside breath test. She was later charged with failing to stop following a collision, drink driving, and assault ABH and is due before Warwickshire Magistrates Court on 29 September.
A 51 year old man from Coventry was arrested at 21.45hours on 18 August on suspicion of drink driving after his manner of driving on Lawford Road caught the attention of officers who pulled him over on Newbold Road. He was later charged with Failing to Provide a Specimen for Analysis and is due to appear at Warwickshire Magistrates Court on 22 September.
A twenty year old man from Nuneaton was arrested at 23.58hours on 18 August on suspicion of drink driving in Tunnel Road, Lawford Rise, Galley Common when officers were called to a single vehicle collision by ambulance staff who were treating the driver. He failed a roadside breath test and was later charged with drink driving to appear at Warwickshire Magistrates Court on 22 September.
A 28 year old provisional driving licence holder from Nuneaton was arrested at 04.44hours on 19 August on suspicion of drink driving, driving without insurance and driving other than in accordance with a licence after he was seen by town centre CCTV operators driving through the town along Mill Walk before parking in the Town Hall car park. CCTV operators alerted police and when officers arrived the driver failed a roadside breath test. He has been released on police bail pending further enquiries.
