Police have released dashcam footage submitted to them through Operation Snap showing an incident of careless driving on 18 June last year near Kingsbury.

The shocking footage shows the driver of an Audi A3 overtaking and narrowly missing a vehicle travelling in the opposite direction towards Kingsbury on Knowle Hill, Hurley in Warwickshire.

The footage was submitted to Operation Snap by a member of the public. This was reviewed by an officer and the driver was subsequently reported.

As a result of the submission, a 21 year old man from Hurley, Atherstone was postally requisitioned to appear at Leamington Magistrates court on 5 March 2024 where he was sentenced to a £381 fine and 6 points on his licence for driving without due care and attention.  He was also ordered to pay £110 costs and £152 victim surcharge.

Alison Treharne of Warwickshire Police Road Safety Unit said “We welcome members the public submitting evidence of poor driving that puts other road users at risk of serious injury.

“This incident could have had a very different outcome with catastrophic consequences.

“Despite nobody being injured or harmed, the manner of driving falls well below what the public expect and the court have rightly taken action.

“We encourage anyone who has footage of a potential moving traffic offence to submit it to Op Snap as soon as possible after the offence. “

About Op Snap

Members of the public can report and submit digital footage showing potential moving traffic offences to Op Snap. This can range from driving dangerously or carelessly to overtaking on solid white lines, using a mobile phone while driving, ignoring traffic lights or dangerous driving around other road users, such as horse riders and cyclists. The evidence will be reviewed by a road traffic police officer and submitters will be informed if the case will be progressed or not. If the case isn’t evidentially strong the rationale for no further action will be explained. Any footage submitted through the portal may also be used by police to help educate other road users and to advise on case results.
