Driver disqualified after driving the wrong way on A46

Op Snap Careless Driver sentenced Jan 26

This Coventry driver has been banned from driving after being caught driving the wrong way along the A46 Stoneleigh, thanks to dashcam footage submitted by a member of the public to our Operation Snap initiative.

The 25-year-old appeared at Leamington Magistrates Court on Tuesday 20 January, where he was fined £500 and banned from driving for six months after pleading guilty to careless driving, driving without a licence and insurance.

The video from May last year shows the driver meeting drivers travelling in the opposite direction. Rather than stopping, he activated his hazard lights and continued driving against the flow of traffic, passing oncoming drivers.

PC Ken Bratley, Road Safety Officer said “This man’s driving fell well below the standard of a competent and careful driver putting himself and others at risk of serious injury.   We can only hope he uses the 6 month ban to reflect on the potential consequences and takes responsibility by becoming a safer, better driver when he eventually returns to the roads.

Offences that can be submitted to Operation Snap range from driving dangerously or carelessly to overtaking on solid white lines, using a mobile phone while driving, ignoring traffic lights or dangerous driving around other road users, such as horse riders and cyclists.
